The owner

“Most outfits around here do one thing. Sealcoat, or paving, or concrete. We do all of it.”

We seal and crack fill school district lots, pour loading dock aprons and dumpster pads, patch the trench after a drain line goes in, saw cut and replace failed asphalt, rebuild catch basins, and plow the same properties through the winter. That is what full service pavement maintenance means, and it is why a property manager can hand us the whole surface instead of a piece of it.

How We Work

Here's what we do on every job:

  • Cleaned first: blown down, edges trimmed back, oil spots primed
  • Cracks filled hot with direct-fire rubber, which bonds to the crack walls and flexes through the freeze
  • Sand and additives mixed into the sealer for traction
  • Edges and the garage apron cut in by hand, with a clean line where the sealer meets your garage door
  • A second coat on high-wear areas that need it
Pitch Black asphalt emulsion sealcoat

We seal every job with Pitch Black, a commercial-grade asphalt emulsion, and we name it because you should know what's going on your pavement. It contains no coal tar; third-party lab tests published at CoalTarFreeUSA.com measure it at 0.00% PAHs. Why we use Pitch Black

The Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association's parking lot design guide says sealer does nothing for pavement that has already failed, and we bid to that. The walk-through separates what can be sealed from what needs repair first, and what can wait. We do the sealing and the repairs.

Common Questions

More questions answered
How much does it cost to sealcoat a driveway?
Residential sealcoating runs about $0.15 to $0.25 per square foot, which is the rate Black Widow has published for years. What moves it inside that range is how much crack filling the drive needs first and whether the high-wear areas want a second coat. Long rural drives are measured rather than guessed at, and the number is fixed before we start.
How long before I can drive on a freshly sealed driveway?
Usually 24 hours for a car and 48 before anything heavy, or before turning your wheels while stopped, which is what scuffs fresh sealer. We give you the actual number on the day, because it moves with the weather.
How often should a driveway be sealed?
Every two to three years in Eau Claire and northwestern Wisconsin. Freeze and thaw here does more damage than sun does, and the cycle matters more than it would further south. Sealing every year is a waste of money.
Is it cheaper to repair the asphalt or repave it?
Repair, until roughly a quarter to a third of the surface has failed. Past that you're patching patches and an overlay becomes better value. The estimate measures how much of your surface has actually failed.
